Betty Meyer, 90

Betty Jane Meyer, 90 years, of Defiance and formerly of Sherwood, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Brookview Healthcare Center, Defiance, where she had been a resident the past two years.  Betty was born June 18, 1924 in Jackson, Michigan, the daughter of Homer and Claudia (Hammon) Wilmer.  She was a 1942 graduate of Defiance High School.  Betty married Charles J. Meyer on February 27, 1946 in Defiance, and he preceded her in death on April 29, 1985.  Betty worked at several area businesses, including Sky Bank, Schwerman Trucking and Stokeley’s as a secretary.  Charles and Betty enjoyed wintering in Plant City Florida, where she also worked for Ladd’s Tax Service.  Betty was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church where she also belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society.  She was a member of the Bryan Chapter of the Sweet Adeline’s.  She also sang for the Toledo Chorus as well.  Betty enjoyed traveling, camping and going shopping with her daughter and grandchildren.  She closely followed her grandchildren in their academic and athletic events.

Surviving are her two sons, Michael Meyer of Archbold and Jeff (Jane) Meyer of Sherwood; one daughter, Diana (Glen) Steffel of Defiance; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles, son, Tim and one sister, Ruby Wilmer.

Visitation for Betty Jane Meyer will be held from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2014 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood where the Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Friday evening.  Funeral Mass for Betty will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014 in St. Isidore Catholic Church 16166 Speaker Road with Father Robert Kill officiating.  Interment will be made in the church cemetery.
