Bobby Clifford “Bob” David, 77

Bobby Clifford “Bob” David, age 77, of Archbold, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. Prior to his retirement he worked as a Licensed General Contractor, both residential and commercial, in many locations, including California, Texas, Virginia, and Nevada. He had also been the Construction Superintendent for Sauder Woodworking in Archbold. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 – 1963 where he played semi-pro football. He also played football for Miami University. He was an Eagle Scout and served as Scout Master for many years. He also coached Pop Warner Football and chaperoned many church youth mission teams and retreats. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Archbold United Methodist Church.

Bobby was born in Williamson, West Virginia on December 28, 1938, the son of Lonzy Reeves and Gertrude (Ferguson) David. On September 8, 1962 he married Retha Lorene Rowe, and she survives.

Surviving also are his two sons, David (Debbie) David of Archbold and Robert “Bobby” David of Navarre, Florida; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Lonzy R. David, Jr., Dorothy Olsen, and Jimmie David.

Bob was well known for being able to create beautiful and functional buildings no matter what raw materials or blueprints he was given. He could build anything from a life guard tower on a San Diego beach to a casino hotel in Las Vegas or a White Castle restaurant in New Jersey. His quiet and fun-loving manner endeared him to all those whose lives he touched. He was a good mentor, teacher and encourager, and wanted the best for his family and friends.

Funeral services will be private. Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with arrangements. The family has suggested that memorials for Bob be given to Sauder Village, Archbold.
