Bryan City Council members approved amending the city’s tax code at Monday’s regular meeting. The changes, according to the Bryan Times, brings the code in line with the standards set forth by the state under the contentious House Bill 5 which was signed into law by Governor John Kasich late last year. The legislation was enacted in order to standardize municipal tax collection across the state. Bryan officials however, contend that the changes are confusing at best and hurtful for taxpayers at worst. Council members urge Bryan residents to study the new laws and to direct any issues to state legislators.
