Bryan Municipal Utilities department heads have submitted their proposed 2017 budgets. The Bryan Times reports Electric Superintendent Al Sullivan, Power Plant Superintendent Matt Killion, Water Superintendent Norm Echler and Communications Superintendent Joe Ferrell were commended last week for compiling the budgets while the director of utilities position was vacant. The 2017 total budget was set at $28.7 million dollars, up about $1.28 million dollars from 2016’s $27.4 million dollar budget. No action was taken on the budget proposal at last week’s meeting. The board scheduled an end-of-year meeting for noon on Dec. 28. Robert Berner, who was hired as BMU’s new director of utilities, officially began work Monday.
