Bryan resident named Trooper of the Year at Defiance Post of OSHP.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Dalton M. Surbey has been selected as the 2024 Trooper of
the Year at the Defiance Post.
The selection of Trooper Surbey, 27, is in recognition of outstanding service during 2024 at the Defiance Post. Fellow officers stationed at the Defiance Post chose Surbey based on leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude, and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public.
Surbey is now in contention for the District and State Trooper of the Year Award to be announced at a later date.
Trooper Surbey joined the Highway Patrol in 2021 and has served at the Defiance Post since then. Originally from Bryan, Surbey graduated from Bryan High School and graduated from Eastern Michigan University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, prior to joining the Highway Patrol. Since joining the patrol, Trooper Surbey has graduated from Bowling Green University with a Masters in Business Administration. Surbey has been awarded the Traffic Safety Award Ribbon, Field Training Officer Ribbon, Fitness Ribbon and Education Ribbon.
Trooper Surbey and his wife, Meghan, live in Bryan with their daughter Charlotte and son Everett.
