Bryan’s Internet Is Blazing

Bryan Municipal Utilities cable and Internet customers are enjoying faster Internet and better

video streaming thanks to several upgrades implemented by the communications department.

In the last 12 months, the department has installed more than $200,000 worth of new equipment and a new Ethernet

connection to improve service to BMU communications customers.

The upgrades were made with no change in the Internet rates for customers.

In 2013, the communications department installed new cable and Internet routing equipment in

the each of the four hub sites. They also installed new fiber optic transmission equipment in the system. The new equipment allowed the department to reduce the number of customer homes per fiber node. In addition, the BMU communications department installed equipment at the end of the year that greatly improved management of Internet traffic.

In February of this year, BMU connected to a new Ethernet circuit that increased the available Internet bandwidth by 300 percent.
