Byron R. Beltz, 85

Byron R. Beltz, 85 years, of Sherwood entered the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, surrounded by his family. Byron was born December 24, 1933 in Mark Center, Ohio, the son of the late Arthur L. and Matilda (Breininger) Beltz. He married Mary E. Speaker on September 27, 1952 in Mark Center, Ohio. Byron worked as a tow motor operator at General Motors for 35 years, retiring in November 1989. Byron was a member of Mark Center United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir, UAW Local 211 Defiance. In his free time, Byron enjoyed spending time outdoors. He could be found hunting, fishing, and camping. He especially cherished spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Mary Beltz of Sherwood, Ohio; three children, Byron C. “Butch” Beltz of Sherwood, Ohio, Linda (Charles) Ball of Sherwood, Ohio, and John Ray Beltz of Sherwood, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Cindy (John) Cook, Curtis (Doreen) Beltz, Jacob Beltz, Julie (Cory) Baden, Jennifer (Matt) Riley, Brandi (Adam) Short, Cassandra  Beltz, Zachery Beltz, and Travis (Ashley) Beltz; 14 great-grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren; one brother, Delmar (June) Beltz of Woodburn, Indiana and many nieces and nephews. Byron was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Sarah Beltz and three sisters, Dorothy Kline, Lucille Henrick, and Ruth Gensel.

Visitation for Byron R. Beltz will be held Friday, March 1, 2019 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Lynn Street Chapel, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 in the funeral home with Pastor James Spears officiating.  Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, Ohio.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Byron’s family would like to express their thanks to everyone at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center for their care provided to Byron and the family.  It is deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.
