Carl D. Holthues, 92

Carl D. Holthues, age 92, of Edon, Ohio, died at 3:35 A.M. on Friday, July 10, 2020, at Park View Nursing Center in Edgerton, Ohio, where he was a resident.  Mr. Holthues was a 1947 graduate of Edon High School and served in the United States Army, spending twenty-one months in Korea during the Korean Conflict, where he received the Purple Heart.  He was a lifelong farmer and had been employed as a grain tester with Edon Co-op for eight years and had also worked at Pizza Hut, Port-a-Pit Chicken, and the Bryan Packaging Plant.  He served as director on the Edon Farmer Co-op Board for twelve years, was a Florence Township Trustee for sixteen years, and was a member of the Farm Bureau, Spring Lake Grange, where he was a fifty-year member.  He was also a member of the Edon United Methodist Church and Edon American Legion Post #662.  Carl was an avid fan of Edon sports and a fixture at all events with his best friend, Jack Dean.
Carl D. Holthues was born on December 20, 1927, in Helena, Montana, the son of Lambert W. and Faye (Till) Holthues.  He married Barbara Ann Connelly on January 17, 1954, in Bryan, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on January 10, 2005.
Survivors include two sisters, Wilma Entenman, of Edon, and Jean Orjechowski, of Montpelier, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his parents; two  brothers, Jack and Neil Holthues; and one sister, Violet Dawn Fuller.
Visitation for Carl D. Holthues will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon.   Services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, with Reverend Deb Widdowson officiating.  Interment will follow in Edon Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662 and the United States Army Honor Guard.
