Charles Lavon Hissong Sr., 90

Charles Lavon Hissong Sr., 90 of Leo, passed away on May 19, 2022.  Charlie was born on November 8, 1931, to the late Ray and Mina (Rumbaugh) Hissong.  Charlie graduated from Antwerp High School in 1949, and was joined in marriage to Catherine Rohrs on October 5, 1951, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hicksville, Ohio.  Charlie served as a medic in the Army in Neu Elm, Germany, during the Korean War, reaching the rank of Corporal.  After returning home, he started his career with Charlie’s Standard Service in Woodburn, Indiana, and then at Woodburn Lumber Company.  He finished his career working at B.F. Goodrich for 29 years.  Charlie enjoyed watching NASCAR races, spending time at Atwood Shores Campground with Katie and their friends, and attending birthday parties and sporting events for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Charlie attended Christ Lutheran Church in Woodburn.

Charlie is survived by his children; Charlie Jr. (Rosemary), Craig (Linda), Chris (Susan), Calvin (Joni), and Chad (Suzanne) Hissong; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and brother, Don Hissong. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Katie Hissong, in 2018.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Glen Hissong, and sisters; Anna Lucas, Leona Taylor, Delores Gustin, and Beatrice Hammond.

Visitation for Charlie L. Hissong, Sr. will be held Monday, May 23, 2022 for 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio.  Funeral Services for Charlie will be held at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, with Pastor Tim Edwards officiating.  There will be an additional hour of visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday.  Interment will follow in Lost Creek Cemetery, Hicksville, Ohio with military graveside rights accorded by the Hicksville American Legion Post 223.
