Cheryl D. Hamilton, 76

Cheryl D. Hamilton, 76, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and formerly of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Ashton Creek Health and Rehab Center, Fort Wayne.  Cheryl was born January 21, 1946, in Hicksville, Ohio, daughter of the late Howard C. and Mary E. (Lenar) Beverly.  She was a 1964 graduate of Hicksville High School, and a 1966 graduate of Ravenscroft Beauty College, Fort Wayne.  Cheryl married Earl R. “Slim” Hamilton, Jr. on June 28, 1969, in Trinity United Methodist Church, Hicksville, and he preceded her in death on January 18, 2018.  Cheryl worked as a hairstylist for many years, before becoming a study hall monitor at Hicksville Exempted Village School District, where she was commonly known as Mrs. Hamilton.  Cheryl retired in 2018 as an assembler at Air-Way Manufacturing in Edgerton, after ten plus years of service.  In her free time, Cheryl enjoyed reading, working on crossword puzzles, spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren, feeding and watching birds, and loving on her two dogs and cat.  Cheryl also made her daily 8:00 A.M. phone calls with her best friend, Shirley Gessner, a priority until Shirley’s passing.

Cheryl is survived by her two children, Jeff Hamilton of Hicksville, Ohio, and Chantelle (Jeff) DeFrain of Fort Wayne, Indiana; six grandchildren, Brandie (Juan Palma) Haverstock of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Donald DeFrain or Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ryan (Caitlin Whelchel) DeFrain of Carmel, Indiana, Brandon Hamilton of Hicksville, Ohio, Trinity DeFrain of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Alexis Hamilton of Hicksville, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, Loveah Palma, Zayden DeFrain, and Raven DeFrain.  Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Earl R. “Slim” Hamilton, Jr.; and four siblings, Carl Beverly, Bob Beverly, Harold Beverly, and Lelah Hoover.

Visitation for Cheryl D. Hamilton will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio.  Funeral services will start at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Susan Kronbach officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.
