City of Bryan has dropped the multiple zoning charges filed against local pastor.

The city of Bryan has dropped the multiple zoning charges filed against a local pastor at the end of last year. In all, the 18 zoning violations, were up against Pastor Chris Avell of Dad’s Place on S. Main St. The original charges stemmed from the facility allowing people, mostly the homeless or transients, to reside on the property, despite the city’s zoning code not permitting such activity. In the end, the city agrees to dismiss the charges without prejudice but retains the right to refile charges. The two parties had been ordered into mediation by a federal court judge after Avell filed a lawsuit, asking the city be stopped from pursuing its action.
