County’s paper ballot voting equipment is in good shape per B of E director

Williams County Board of Elections Director Heather Freese told county commissioners Thursday that the county’s paper ballot voting equipment “is in good shape now. The Bryan Times reports that, coincidentally, the state Legislature is asking county elections boards to have preliminary discussions with county commissioners to consider what kinds of equipment the elections office wants, how much it will cost and how soon that upgrade will need to take place. The state is further asking elections boards to then report their findings on a Statement of Needs form, so that legislators have an idea how much each county will need and how much the state will reimburse counties for new election equipment. Freese said while the county’s paper ballot system has worked well in the past, she favors converting to an electronic voting system.
