CSX Railroad Viaducts Now Better Marked In Defiance

It just got a little safer for tall vehicles to pass through Defiance. Low clearance at several CSX Railroad viaducts are now more clearly marked, due to the placement of new-permanant signs on two Defiance streets.

The new 10-foot high signs are now plainly visible on either side of the viaducts on South Clinton Street and South Jefferson Avenue. Both of those low overpasses have been hit by overheight trucks on a number of occassions.

Clearance under the lowest of the two is only 11 feet, 9 inches. The other is 12 feet, 5 inches.

The new signs are electric, and flash messages warning of the low viaduct and giving the exact clearance for truckers. They cost more than $43,000.
