CSX wants to close six railroad crossings to traffic

CSX is ask­ing the county and Defi­ance to close six rail­road cross­ings, includ­ing at Hire Rd., to vehi­cle traf­fic. CSX has joined the Pub­lic Util­i­ties Com­mis­sion of Ohio and the Ohio Rail Devel­op­ment Com­mis­sion in offer­ing to pay the county hun­dreds of thou­sands of dol­lars to cre­ate alter­nate access for res­i­dents who’d be affected by the clos­ings. Com­mis­sion­ers and offi­cials with the city dis­cussed the pro­posal on Wednes­day and said they’ll sent a joint writ­ten response soon.
