Darlene M. Walters, age 80, of rural Defiance passed away Wednesday December 14, 2016 at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Care Center. She was a lifelong farm wife , devoted Mother and school bus driver for the Northeastern School District.
Darlene was born on December 30, 1935 in Stryker, Ohio the daughter of the late Willard and the late Dorothy (Garber) Rowan. On November 11, 1961 she married Leo Walters and he preceded her in death in 2013. She was a member of the Evansport United Methodist Church where she had been active on several committees over the years and also helped serving many church dinners. Darlene was an accomplished seamstress, an avid gardener and a gifted pianist. Along with her husband, she was a member of the former Saddle Pals Horse Club.
Surviving are six daughters; Robin Hanker of Defiance, Rita (Bill) Cordes of Napoleon, Regina Walters of Evansport, Rhonda (Sam) Lehman of Evansport, Renee (Steve) Mack of Metamora and Rebecca (Chris) Schlegel of Defiance. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Monday December 19, 2016 at the Evansport United Methodist Church with Pastor Becky Ploughe officiating. Interment will follow in the Evansport Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker from 2:00-7:00pm.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the Evansport United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Care Center.
