DEFIANCE EYES BUDGET

The 2014 budget option before Defiance City Council was given a first look Tuesday night.

Following a first reading, council let lie the ordinance which would approve the budget, six days after the county’s board of elections certified that the city’s 0.3-percent income tax for police and fire services passed. Nearly 400 votes that were uncounted on Election Day, but were tallied last Wednesday swung a 15-vote deficit into a 28-vote win.

The Crescent News reports that the budget ordinance is expected to receive a second reading next week.
