A Defiance man was killed Sunday evening when his scooter was struck on U.S. 24 in Defiance County. Danny Hepworth Jr., Defiance, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Defiance County Coroner Dr. Gary Okuley. According to the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, at 9:50 p.m., on U.S. 24, east of Flory Road, Hepworth was westbound and struck from behind by an SUV driven by Christopher Weirauch of Napoleon. Hepworth was ejected and both vehicles came to rest on the north side of the roadway. Troopers reported that Hepworth was not wearing a helmet. Weirauch was taken by South Richland EMS to Mercy Defiance Hospital for minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
