Defiance Over Budget On Overtime

In Defi­ance, city employee over­time costs topped $550,000 last year with the police and fire depart­ments account­ing for more than two-thirds of that expense. The Cres­cent News reports that city records indi­cate that $201,302 went for fire depart­ment over­time costs, and $156,194 was paid for police over­time… 64.3 per­cent of the total amount paid by the city. The streets depart­ment came in third, at $49,383 in over­time dur­ing 2014. Other over­time fig­ures in 2014 include: water dis­tri­b­u­tion, $23,638; ceme­tery, $17,106; parks, $10,597; util­i­ties billing office, $6,719; build­ings and lands, $2,360; and engi­neer­ing, $2,351.
