Defiance Sheriff Warns Of Scam

The Defiance County Sheriff is warning homeowners of another scam making the rounds.

Here’s how it works…

Somebody is using an app to manipulate Caller ID to make it appear that the person on the phone is a Defiance County Sheriff’s Deputy.

The Sheriff says a scammer called one person in Defiance County at home and another at work forging the Caller ID information to say the call is coming from the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller said he was Deputy Michael Jenkins, but there is no deputy in Defiance by that name.

The scammer tries to get credit card or bank information, telling people that they have a warrant for their arrest and they need to immediately send in a fee to take care of it.

The Defiance County Sheriff’s Office says if you get such a call, it’s bogus. Don’t give any information, hang up, and call the sheriff’s office immediately.
