Dennis Ankney, 69

Dennis R. Ankney, 69 years, of Sherwood, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014.  Dennis was born June 25, 1945 in Hicksville, Ohio, the son of Oney A. and Clara C. (Chamberlin) Ankney.  He was a 1963 graduate of Central Local High School.  Dennis was an Army veteran serving during the Vietnam Era.  He married Mary L. Paxton on December 15, 1966 at St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, and she survives.  Dennis was employed by General Motors Foundry in Defiance, for 41 years, retiring in 2009.  Dennis was a lifelong farmer, which was his passion.  He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sherwood as well as the Bryan VFW Post 2489.  Dennis had a passion for motorcycles, cars and tractors.

Surviving is his wife Mary of Sherwood; two children, Lisa (Dan Sileargy) Ankney of Columbus, Ohio and Kevin (Erin) Ankney of Franklin, Indiana; three grandchildren, Preston Ankney, Samantha Ankney and Jordan Ankney; His mother, Clara Ankney of Bryan; four sisters, Cathren Lee of Clayton, Georgia, Helen Coombs of Sherwood, Ohio, Betty George of Mark Center, Ohio and June (Mike) Davis of Maumee, Ohio; one brother, Reuben Ankney of Kampsville, Illinois.  He was preceded in death by his father, Oney, one brother, Kenneth Ankney and one sister, Emma Ankney.

Visitation for Dennis R. Ankney will be held Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan.  Funeral services for Dennis will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 09088 Openlander Road, Sherwood with Pastor Dale Kern officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Bryan VFW Post 2489.  Visitation for Dennis will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
