We told you last week that troopers in the region were conducting an operation to stop distracted driving on the highway. Well, we have some numbers for you, now. In the 12 county area around here, over 150 tickets were wrote up for doing more than just driving. Statewide, the number of citations peaked at over 15 hundred. Officers in five other states in the region carried on similar operations and netted huge citation numbers as well. It was all in an effort to get the message out there…put down the devices…your cell phone especially…while behind the wheel. Officials say the number of distracted driving fatalities in the state doubled from 2016 to 2017.
