Election filing deadlines passed this month for the May 2 primary with a small number of partisan candidates and issues surfacing throughout the Defiance six-county area. Independent candidates still have until 4 p.m. May 1 to file to be placed on the November ballot. Among the many issues on the ballot and candidates running for office: In Defiance County, only one candidate filed for Defiance Municipal Court judge – Republican incumbent John Rohrs III. He will seek a fifth, six-year term. Three Republicans filed for four open Hicksville Village Council seats – Ronald Jones, Michael Barth and Larry Ridgway. Jones and Barth are incumbents while Ridgway is seeking the seat held by Michael Headley who did not file.
