Elizabeth Chester, 88

Elizabeth E. Chester, 88 years, of West Unity, passed away Friday, January 9, 2014. Elizabeth was born September 14, 1925 in Alvordton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Estel and Edna (Croninger) Caulkins.  She was a 1943 graduate of Alvordton High School where she was also the class President and Salutatorian.  She married Forrest W. Chester on November 27, 1946 in her parent’s home in Alvordton, and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1991.  Elizabeth was a well-known cook and had worked at DeGroff’s Restaurant.  She also worked for Joyce Leavy Catering.  She was a member of the Pulaski United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Three Arts Club of West Unity.  Elizabeth enjoyed cooking and baking and being a caregiver to many folks whatever the need.  She was also very involved in her children’s school events.

Surviving are her six children, Paul (Kay) Chester of Arlington, Ohio, David (Michelle) Chester of West Unity, Mary (Steve) Simon of Roanoke, Indiana, Coleen Chester of Monroe, Michigan, Cheryl Chester of West Unity and Carol (Joel) Nofziger of Toledo; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Forrest and one brother, Darel Caulkins.

Visitation for Elizabeth E. Chester will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Pulaski United Methodist Church, 06950 US Highway 127 North, Bryan where funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in the church with Pastor Becky Ploughe officiating.  Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan.  Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity, Ohio (419-924-9200)

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial tributes be made to Pulaski United Methodist Church or Cancer Assistance of Williams County, 228 South Main Street, Bryan, Ohio 43506.
