FIRE IN DEFIANCE

Investigators say a Defiance woman was critically injured Tuesday morning while trying to rescue her pets from a three-alarm house fire.

Donna Coleman, of 101 Hill Ave. in Defiance, was taken to Mercy Defiance Hospital, then transferred to the Mercy Saint Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where as of yesterday, she was listed in fair condition.

Two dogs died in the fire, and none of the woman’s cats were found.

The cause of that fire in Defiance is being investigated by the state fire marshal’s office, but they say it does not appear to be suspicious.

The home and all of its contents were destroyed.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.
