Francis Baldwin, 92

Francis Baldwin, age 92, of Bryan,and passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio. Prior to his retirement he had been a farmer most of his life.

Francis was born in Defiance County on June 5, 1921, the son of Howard and Marjorie (Figley) Baldwin. On January 11, 1942 he married Lois Sue Hane, and she survives. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Defiance, where he had served as an usher. He had also been the Sunday School Superintendent of the Evansport United Methodist Church. He was president of his graduating class from Tiffin High School in 1940. An Army Veteran of WWII, he had served in the 351st Army Engineers as a TS Corporal, Utility Repairman. He was called forward for the first wave of fighting during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a past Commander at the former Evansport VFW and was a member of the Farmer American Legion Post.

Suriving besides his wife, Lois, is their daughter, Barbara Sue Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Ruth Baldwin.

Visitation for Francis will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Evansport United Methodist Church, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, with Pastor Becky Ploughe, officiating. Interment will follow in the Evansport Cemetery, where Veteran Services will be provided by members of the Farmer American Legion. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Evansport United Methodist Church or the Union Chapel – Church of God. Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker has been entrusted with arrangements.
