Gerald James Yoder, 74

Gerald James Yoder, 74, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 3, 2025, in his residence.  Gerald was born September 15, 1950, son of the late Peter “Pete” and Leah (Miller) Yoder.  He was a 1969 graduate of Woodlan High School in Woodburn, Indiana.  Gerald married Debra D. Johnson on September 8, 1972, and she preceded him in death on March 5, 2018.  He was formerly a part-owner of Yoder Body Shop and a salesman at Jim Schmidt Family of Dealerships.  He also worked as a self-employed fabricator and painter.  Gerald attended the Hicksville Mennonite Church, and a social member of the Hicksville Eagles Aerie #2556.  He enjoyed golfing in his Wednesday night league, attending and supporting the Aces, watching and listening to Cleveland Guardians baseball (FKA Indians), and lending a helping hand to friends, family and even strangers.  Gerald impacted many lives with his kindness and generosity.

Surviving are his two sons, Chad (Shelly) Yoder of Hicksville and Jason (Jen) Yoder of Raleigh, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Gage and Peyton Yoder; two brothers, Kenneth (Lora) Yoder of Cutler Bay, Florida, and Dale (Pam) Yoder of Hicksville; two sisters, Margaret (Harvey) Steckly of Hicksville and Deloris (Rick) Miller of Antwerp; sister-in-law, Joyce Yoder of Hicksville; special friend, Della Bassett of Hicksville; several special nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Jax.  Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Debra; and two brothers, Jerry Yoder and Noah Yoder.

Visitation for Gerald James Yoder will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 2:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville.  Funeral services for Gerald will be held Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at the Hicksville Mennonite Church, 237 West Arthur Street, Hicksville, with Pastor Jay Mast officiating.  There will be an additional hour of visitation on Friday at the church prior to the start of the funeral service.  Private interment will take place at a later date at Yaggy Cemetery, Grabill, Indiana.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the Hicksville Mennonite Church, Hicksville Fire Department or the Hicksville Rescue Squad.
