Hillandale Farms Ohio LLC plans to break ground in June to a 100-acre laying hen farm in Hicksville. The farm will be a first in Ohio for the company, which is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Bryan Times reports that the farm will be located 3 miles east of Hicksville on Rosedale Road.

Earlier this week, Defiance County Commissioners approved a plan to utilize state-funded Community Development Block Grants to support efforts to bring the farm to the community. The county will improve off-site infrastructure around the plant.

Rosedale Road needs to be upgraded, from gravel to pavement, and the Ohio Gas Company will extend a 4-inch gas line two and three quarter miles.

Total cost of the improvements are estimated at about $57 Million.
