Hicksville boy honored for life-saving efforts

The Hicksville volunteer fire department named their Firefighter of the Year, a 13-year-old boy who saved his family’s home and his brother’s life last August. 13-year-old Joey Taylor and his 10-year-old brother were home in the late afternoon when they heard an explosion in the garage. Seeing a fire, the teen grabbed his brother, went to a neighbor’s house, and called 911. He went back to the house and use the fire extinguisher to fight the fire until first responders arrived.
