Ima Jean Culbertson, 73

Ima Jean Culbertson, 73 years, of Bryan, joined her Heavenly Father on Sunday evening, August 17, 2014 in her home with her family at her side.  Jean was born December 30, 1940 in Mesa, Arizona, the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Esther Mae (Stewart) Palmer.  She married Donald Leslie Culbertson on March 11, 1960 in Coolidge, Arizona, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1998.  Jean was a devoted homemaker.  After raising her family, Jean went to work as manager of a retail store before moving to a lead processor at T.J. Maxx, before retiring in 2000.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Phoenix, Arizona as well as the Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233 and the Young Homemakers and the Young Farmers Council.  Jean loved to go dancing and was known to be an avid reader.  She also found enjoyment in gardening and getting her hands dirty, working with her flowers and plants.

Surviving is her daughter, Tina Culbertson of Bryan; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Culbertson of West Unity; seven grandchildren, Jenn Sawyer and her fiancé Andrew Wignall of Denton, Texas, Ashley Sawyer of Bryan, Steven (Jamie) Culbertson of West Unity, Jennifer Culbertson of West Unity, Daniel McFarland of Austin, Texas, David (Kimberly) McFarland of League City, Texas and Mitchell Culbertson of Kansas; six great-grandchildren, also known as her “babies”, Jakob, David, Corbin, Amelia, Clark and Caroline; one sister, Maxine Sepulveda of Florence, Arizona; one brother, Alfred Palmer of Florence, Arizona and her dearest friend, Alan Wilson of Montpelier.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald and one son, Darrel Culbertson.

Jean donated her body for Alzheimer’s and Cancer Research to Science Care.  Memorial services for Ima Jean Culbertson will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Bryan.
