In Court

Previously found guilty of two counts of felony rape, Christopher Sturtevant was sentenced Tuesday to 14 years in prison in a Williams County courtroom. Sturtevant, 21, of Edgerton, gets seven years for each rape count of two women, to be served consecutively. Both victims were 19 years old when the assaults occurred. Sturtevant was convicted August 18 after a four-day jury trial. He also received 10 years…five years for each count…of probation, and ordered to pay restitution to one of the victims for her mental health treatment as a result of the trauma. During the incident on Dec. 5, 2021, the victims said they were passed out on Sturtevant’s bed when he raped them. In a statement, advocating for the maximum sentence of up to 27 years in prison for both counts, prosecutors said Sturtevant had not shown responsibility or remorse. Sturtevant maintained during the trial and during the sentencing hearing Tuesday that he was innocent, and asked Stelzer to consider that convictions on several separate previous charges were misdemeanors, not felonies.
