Ireta Sawvel, 87

Ireta A. Sawvel, 87 years, of Auburn, and formerly of Angola, Indiana, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at Betz Nursing Home where she had been a resident.  Ireta was born January 23, 1926 in Hillsboro, Indiana, the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Margaret (Gillie) Bever.  She married Walter S. Sawvel on August 22, 1953, and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2003.  Ireta was a homemaker, but she had worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Carlin Health Center for 15 years.  She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, crocheting, cooking and caring for her family.

Surviving are her two daughters, Dora (Clarence) Thorne of Butler, Indiana and Elsa White also of Butler; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; one sister, Betty Lippert of Hortonville, Wisconsin.  She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, John D. and Walter “Skippy” Sawvel; one brother, John Bever and two sisters, Adell Myers and Welcome Henkel.

Visitation for Ireta A. Sawvel will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 3985 East Church Street, Hamilton.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Jon List officiating.  Interment will follow in Eddy Cemetery, rural Hamilton.
