Jerald “Jerry” J Mercer, 82

Jerald “Jerry” J Mercer, 82, of Montpelier, passed away on July 8, 2020 at Evergreen Healthcare Center in Montpelier. He was born on May 29, 1938 in West Jefferson, OH to Otis E. and Thelma (Wright) Mercer, Sr. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1956. On June 24, 1961 he married Donna D. Fether at the Church of Christ in Montpelier.

Jerry worked at Blissett Chevrolet Dealership in Montpelier, the Montpelier Auto Clinic as a mechanic, he was the owner and operator of Union 76 Gas Station and did general maintenance tasks for Owens Electric in Montpelier. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Montpelier and was a special deputy for the Williams County Sheriffs office for 40 plus years. When his children were growing up, Jerry was active in coaching with the Montpelier baseball programs.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Donna Mercer; two children, Kris (Steve) Pritchard of Montpelier and Loyd Mercer (Dani Tedrow) of Archbold; two grandchildren, Chase and Colin Mercer; two sisters, Deloris Wiyrick of Mountain Grove, MO and Lynette Bernath of Pioneer; and one sister-in-law, Rita Mercer of Bryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Otis (Sandra) Mercer, Jr., Wilber Mercer, Larry Mercer, Janice (Jess) Hendricks, Nancy (Lyle) Allomong and Nadine Wilcox; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Wiyrick and Marvin Bernath.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2020 from 1-4 pm and Monday, July 13th from 10:30-11:30am at the First Presbyterian Church in Montpelier. A funeral service will take place on Monday, July 13, 2020 at 11:30 am at the church with Pastor Mike Wilder to officiate, with the assistance of Ron Keller. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. The family has asked that if attending services, you adhere to recommended social distancing guidelines and that you bring a mask as wearing one will be required. Memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church
