John E. Durre, 87

John E. Durre, 87 years, of Hicksville, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Bethlehem Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana. John was born October 18, 1934, in Hicksville, Ohio, the son of the late Edward E. and Edith M. (Yearling) Durre. He was a 1952 graduate of Hicksville High School. John was an Army Veteran, serving from 1956-1958. He married Mary Lou Keithley in June of 1958, and she preceded him in death on April 21, 2005. John was a lifelong farmer. He also worked at Nemco Foods for many years. John trained and owned several racehorses over the years. John served as a Hicksville Township Trustee and had attended St. John Lutheran Church, Hicksville.  He was a member of the Hicksville Eagles Aerie, Hicksville American Legion Post and for a brief period, the Hicksville Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his two sons, Eric (Kym) Durre of Hicksville and Jeff (Jocelyn) Durre of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandsons, Alex Durre, Ian Durre, Collin Durre and Cameron Durre; one brother, Ted (Janet) Durre of Hamilton, Indiana; one sister, Linda Towsley of New Haven, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lou; one sister, Carole McDonald.

Visitation for John E. Durre will be held Friday, February 25, 2022, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville. Funeral services for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022, in the funeral home, with Mark Staehle officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Johnson Memorial Library-Friends 116-118 West High Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
