John Florkowski, 64

John J. Florkowski, 64 years, of Bryan, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan.  John was born December 1, 1949 in Toledo, the son of the late Chester and Leona (Rybka) Florkowski.  John was a 1967 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Toledo.  A Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam Era, John was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in the line of duty.  John married Patricia L. “Patty” Dean on May 17, 1974 in Columbus, Ohio, and she survives.  John was a Police Officer for the City of Bryan, starting his career in Law Enforcement on October 9, 1972 and retiring on March 16, 2001 as Police Chief.  John was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.  John was a member of the Bryan VFW Post 2489 and the Bryan DAV Post 54.  He served as a mentor for the Big Brother/Big Sister of Northwestern Ohio.  John loved to be outdoors whether gardening or caring for his yard, or hunting or fishing, as long as he was outdoors, everything was good.

In addition to his wife Patty, John is survived by three sons, Michael (Melissa) Florkowski of Phoenix, Arizona, David (Jenna) Florkowski of Waldron, Michigan and Josh (Nina) MacMullen of Bushnell, Florida; two grandsons; one sister, Margaret (Tom) Lewandowski of Ladera Ranch, California and one brother-in-law, Daniel Kubicki of Toledo.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Susan Kubicki.

Visitation for John J. Florkowski will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan where Scripture Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening.  Funeral Mass for John will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2014 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bryan with Father Todd Dominique officiating.  Interment will
follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan with Military Graveside Services to be conducted by Bryan VFW Post 2489.
