Jon A. Roesti, 80

Jon A. Roesti, 80, of Defiance, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 5, 2022, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance. Jon was born July 22, 1942, in Defiance, Ohio, son of the late Lester and Pauline (Zachrich) Roesti. He was a 1960 graduate of Defiance High School. After graduation, Jon enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving until his honorable discharge in August 1963. Jon married Sylvia M. “Toby” Roesti on September 8, 1967, in Antwerp, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on November 22, 2015. Jon worked as a Brick Mason retiring after 40 years of service. Jon attended Sherwood United Methodist Church and did volunteer work for different activities there as well as Trinity United Methodist Church in Defiance. He was also a member of Bricklayers Union Local 1 and the Defiance Eagles Aerie 372. In his free time, Jon enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking the Appalachian Trail and just being outdoors. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren participate in their various activities.

Jon is survived by his three sons, Troy (Kathleen) Roesti of Tampa, Florida, Brian J. (Audra) Roesti of West Unity, Ohio, and Branden C. Roesti of Defiance, Ohio; eight grandchildren; F. Colt, Skylar P., Logan T., Brayden C., B. Grey, Zoe M. Lissa K. and Izabel A.; one sister, Nancy Latchaw, of Kendallville, Indiana. Jon was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Toby; and one son, James B. Roesti; three brothers Dave Roesti, Gary Roesti and Larry Roesti; one sister, Sally Roesti.

A gathering of family and friends for Jon A. Roesti will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2022, from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Sherwood United Methodist Church, 512 North Harrison Street, Sherwood, at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2022, with Pastor Boyd Shugert and Betty Penner officiating. Private interment will take place at later date in Bethel Cemetery.
