Emanuel L. “Jr.” Gomer, Jr., age 88, of Wauseon, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Fulton Suites in Wauseon. Prior to his retirement in 1988 he had worked for the Wauseon Street Department for 33 years.
He was born in Wauseon on October 25, 1925, the son of Emanuel L. “Lake” and Dora (Galbraith) Gomer, Sr. On May 27, 1950 he married Betty Nofziger, and she survives. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and a lifetime member of the Wauseon VFW Post #7424. Jr. loved hunting and fishing and a longtime member of the Fulton County Sportsmen Club.
Surviving besides his wife, Betty, is one son, Robert Gomer of Cathedral City, CA; two daughters, Kathy Marnoff and Barb (Jack) Croninger, both of Wauseon; grandchildren, Mike (Sandy) Stevens, Becky (Terry) Hammond, Jennifer (Todd) Squires, Bryan (Mandy) Croninger, Brad (Jennifer) Croninger; great-grandchildren, Jacy, Brooke, Kadence, Brison, Jack, Max, Maggie, and Travis, and two sisters, Carolyn Avina of Swanton and Katie Giardina of Sandusky. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert, sister, Helen Weber, his parents, and infant daughter, Julie.
Visitation will be held from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 P.M. on Thursday, December 5, 2013 a the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon. The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, also at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, with Pastor Ruth Ann Scoby, officiating. Interment will follow in the Wauseon Union Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Kidney Foundation or Christ United Methodist Church.
