Shopping locally is helpful for Bryan’s community and, for the rest of the month, is helpful to the shoppers. A Civic Economics study shows spending $100 at an independent business ultimately keeps $68 in the local community…while only $43 stays if that c-note is spent at a national chain. So, for the remainder of July, customers of local businesses can enter to win prizes, including gift certificates and a $500 grand prize as part of the “I Shop Locally” contest. In order to win, you can pick up a free card from participating local businesses and then shop around the county, in order to collect three stamps on the card. Turning in the card will enter the shopper into the contest. Two winners are selected each week with the grand prize winner announced on Friday, Aug. 4.
