Larry Chaffins, 67

Larry P. Chaffins, 67 years, of Auburn, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 in his residence with his family by his side.  Larry was born August 1, 1946 in Garrett, Kentucky, the son of the late W. Hiatt and Helen M. (Bradley) Chaffins.  He was a 1964 graduate of Garrett High School, Garrett, Kentucky.  A US Army veteran, Larry served as a Squad Leader of a Weapons Platoon stationed in Korea during the Viet Nam Era.  He married Sara Moore on July 3, 1970 in Decatur, Indiana, and she survives.  Larry was a machine operator at Dana and the Eaton Corporation for 30 ½ years, retiring in 1999.  He also worked at Rural King and Wal-Mart after his retirement.  He was a former member of New Hope Church, Kendallville, Indiana.  Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and participating in outdoor activities.  He coveted his time he spent fishing with his grandson, Aedin.

Surviving is his wife, Sara of Auburn; one daughter, Christine A. Chaffins of Kendallville, Indiana; one grandson, Aedin E. Chaffins of Kendallville; three brothers, James Chaffins of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Jerry and John Chaffins of Garrett, Kentucky; six sisters, Charlotte Fogle of Auburn, Deborah (Charles) Kaduk of Auburn, Vada (Denny) Dangler of Angola, Trudy Kirk of Butler, Betty Reed of Auburn, and Burneda Howard of Garrett, Kentucky.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Amanda S. Chaffins, one son, Brian P. Chaffins and one brother, David Chaffins.

A celebration of the life of Larry P. Chaffins and a gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at New Life House of Worship, 130 North Randolph Street, Garrett with Pastor J.C. “Kelly” Banks officiating.  Private interment will be held at a later date.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Boomerang Backpack Program through East Noble Schools.
