Larry E. Scranton, 72

Larry E. Scranton, 72, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Larry was born April 18, 1951, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of the late Lauren and Lauretta (Robinson) Scranton.  After graduating from Hicksville High School in 1969, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from August 26, 1969, until his honorable discharge on July 20, 1973.  Larry married Cheryl J. McClellan on September 23, 1972 in Hicksville, Ohio, and she survives.  He worked as a technical analyst for Xerox Holdings Corporation for over 45 years, retiring in 2018.  In retirement, Larry volunteered as an electrical teacher for APT students.  Larry was a member of Empower Church in Hicksville, where he served in various roles, including on the Board of Directors, and was lovingly referred to as “Uncle Larry”.  He also served on the Board of Directors for Christ’s Cupboard and Growing God’s Way, two Hicksville-area ministries near and dear to his heart.  Larry was a member of the Hicksville American Legion Post 223, where he was past Commander and enjoyed serving on the military honor detail.  In his free time, Larry loved bass fishing, and had favorite spots in Missouri, and while wintering in Florida.

Larry is survived by his wife Cheryl Scranton of Hicksville, Ohio; two brothers, Herbert (Mary) Scranton of Ney, Ohio, and Richard (Paula) Scranton of Hicksville, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Karen Scranton of Hicksville, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Steven Scranton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Empower Church.  Private burial with also be held at a later date, where Military Rites will be accorded by the combined honor detail from the Hicksville American Legion Post 223, Farmer American Legion Post 137, and Sherwood VFW Post 5665.  Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
