Lavon R. “Dick” Cooper, Sr., 82

Lavon R. “Dick” Cooper, Sr., 82 years, of Bryan passed Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at SKLD-Bryan Center. Richard was born March 6, 1938 in Van Wert, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph Marion and Sarah Catherine (DeCamp) Cooper. He married Karen Ann Murray on April 28, 1961 in Garrett, Indiana and she survives. Richard worked as a heavy machine operator for Brust Pipeline for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Local Union 18, and Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233. Richard loved spending time with his wife and children and always ensured they went on family trips when he wasn’t working. Whether it was traveling or camping, Richard enjoyed taking his family on an adventure. He was a true family man and always strived to provide for his wife and children.

Surviving is loving wife of 59 years, Karen Cooper of Bryan, Ohio; four children, Diana Ortiz of Casa Grande, Arizona, Rick (Penny) Cooper of Bryan, Ohio, Randy (Regina) Cooper of Edgerton, Ohio and Cherie (Benjamin) Crites of Bryan, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Cooper-Simpson; granddaughter, Angela Cooper; three brothers, George Cooper, Joseph Marion Cooper, Jr. and Clare Cooper.

A Funeral Mass for Lavon R. “Dick” Cooper will be held Monday, July 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 610 S. Portland Street, Bryan, with Father Andrew Wellmann officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Private family interment will take place at Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the family ask those attending services to observe social distancing and to wear mask to prevent spreading of the virus.
