County commissioners agree to review and consider raising the hourly rate for court-appointed counsel after hearing a request from Williams County Court Judge, JT Stelzer. Court-appointed counsel are attorneys provided to defendants who cannot afford to hire an attorney. Stelzer said at one time the county had as many as 15 local attorneys available to serve as court-appointed counsel, but that number is down to just four in felony court.
