Marie Belle Clark, 100

Marie Belle Clark, age 100, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, March 10, 2025.  She was a lifelong resident of Hicksville.  She was born December 3, 1924, in Hicksville, the daughter of the late Elmer E. and Mae E. (Beltz) Brush.  Marie was a 1943 graduate of Hicksville High School.  She married Chalmer E. Clark on April 2, 1948, at Trinity Methodist Church in Hicksville.  Chalmer preceded her in death on January 5, 1994.

Marie held numerous jobs over the years working at Magnavox, The Handle Factory, The Hicksville Water Department as well as owning and operating with her husband Clark Grocery Store for 11 years.  In her earlier years you could find Marie alongside her mother cooking and baking pies for local restaurants and the community.  For many years she was the clerk for Forest Home Cemetery in Hicksville.  She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and a past president of the VFW Auxiliary.  In her spare time Marie enjoyed knitting, cross stitching, cooking and baking but what brought the biggest smile to her face was blue gill fishing on Marble Lake.

Marie is survived by her niece, Margaret “Susie” Atkins of Cocoa, Florida; her niece-in-law, Sue Brush of Seattle, Washington; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her special friends Dan and Ramona Michael of Antwerp, Ohio, and Lynn Burch and Jan Day Burch of Hamilton, Indiana, as well as her “Angel” caregivers these past couple of years: Laura Eicher, Rosemary King, Linda Elwood, Janet Elliott, Rosemarie Moore, Joyce Yoder, Judy McCalla, Marilyn Kline and Eva Wermer.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Chalmer; brother, Glen Brush; and two nephews, Kenneth Brush and Raymond Brush.

Visitation for Marie Belle Clark will be held Monday, March 24, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville.  Funeral services will immediately follow in the funeral home beginning at 11:00 A.M.  Interment will follow in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan, Indiana.
