Mary “Joyce” Carey, age 85, of Angola, Indiana, died at 3:40 A.M. on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, Indiana, where she was a patient. Mrs. Carey was a graduate of Camden-Frontier High School and worked as a cook at the Round-Up on U.S. 20 at the Ohio-Michigan line for over twenty years. She was a member of the Edon Church of Christ, where she was a charter member of the Martha Society and was a longtime part of the nursery program. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, growing flowers and watching hummingbirds.
Mary “Joyce” Carey was born on January 28, 1929, in Camden, Michigan, the daughter of Orion and Orpha (Ford) Gary. She married Marlin D. Carey on November 14, 1948, in Edon and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2009.
Survivors include three sons, Joe (Debbie Millay) Carey, of Angola, John (Cathy) Carey, of Ortonville, Michigan, and James Carey, of Albion, Michigan; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Orion (Joyce) Gary, of Angola; and one sister, Donna (Ken) Nugent, of Muscatine, Iowa. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joan Matthews and Carol Taylor.
Services for Mary “Joyce” Carey will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. in the Edon Church of Christ, Edon, Ohio, with David LaDuke, Minister officiating. Internment will follow in Edon Cemetery, Edon, Ohio. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon, Ohio, from 2:00-6:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 16, 2014.
