Mary Stoltz, 95

Mary Evelyn Stoltz passed away on January 29, 2015 at the age of 95. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and the late Susie (Sheckler) Stark.

Known to all as Evelyn, she lived her entire life in Ohio. Born in Bucyrus, she grew up in Liberty Center and after her marriage to Ralph Stoltz in 1950, moved to Wauseon.  The last several years of her life were spent at Emeritus at Hillenvale in Mount Vernon where she moved to be closer to her daughter.

Evelyn was very active in Christ United Methodist Church in Wauseon, where she was a long time member. While her children were growing up, the entire family sang in the church choir and she continued to do so until she was in her 80s. Gardening was her passion, and she was generous with gifts of produce to neighbors and friends. Evelyn knitted during the long winter months when it was difficult to get outside and the church benefitted from the many knitted items she donated to the annual Church Bazaar. She was a former member of the Wauseon Women’s Club and the United Methodist Women.

Always supportive of her daughters’ extracurricular activities, Evelyn attended many softball games, tennis matches, and band and choir concerts. After her husband’s death in 1992, she continued to actively attend concerts, plays and Wauseon High School football games with a circle of friends.   She liked to laugh but was also known for her tenacity, persistence and spunk.   This earned her the nickname “Sparky” from the staff and residents at Emeritus, where she brought joy and laughter to others.

Evelyn was predeceased by her sister Helen Spiess and her husband Ralph Stoltz. She is survived by her daughters Beverly Saksa and Brenda Bailey-Hainer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Wednesday February 5, 2015 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 215 N. Fulton St., in Wauseon with Pastor Ruth Ann Scoby officiating. Interment will follow in the Wauseon Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 2:00-6:00pm. The Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon has been entrusted with arrangements.
