Michael “Mike” D. Stecher, 65

Michael “Mike” D. Stecher, 65, of Mark Center, Ohio passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Mike was born July 15, 1956, in Bryan, Ohio to Roy and Barbara Ann (Smith) Stecher. He was a 1974 graduate of Fairview High School and continued his education at Ohio State University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and a minor in Education. He married Joyce Shinners-Williams on June 18, 1999, in Sherwood, Ohio and she survives. Mike worked at Heidtman Steel as an overhead crane operator. He previously taught agriculture classes at Bryan High School for several years and worked at a hog farm. He was active in Rendezvous in Ohio, Muzzleloader groups, NRA, and the Bryan Eagles Aeria 2233.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sherwood, Ohio. Mike enjoyed working with his hands and was knowns as “Mr. Fix it”. When he was not fixing something, he had a profound interest in firearms and historical artifacts. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs.

Surviving is his wife, Joyce Stecher of Mark Center, Ohio; two children, Nathan (Darla) Williams of Elyria, Ohio, and Julie (Adam) VanArsdalen of Mark Center, Ohio; two grandchildren, Yanira Williams and Joseph VanArsdalen; father, Roy (Thelma) Stecher of Bryan, Ohio and brother, Danny (Tammy) Stecher of Mark Center, Ohio. Mike was preceded in death by his mom, Barbara Ann.

Visitation for Mike will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 9088 Openlander Road, Sherwood, with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the church with Pastor Eric Moquin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Services are in care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio.

The family asks those remembering Mike to make memorial contributions to Boy Scouts of American or the NRA.
