A plan to offer a 100 percent tax abatement over a 15-year period on residential improvements over $5,000, or for new construction is now law after Montpelier Village Council voted it in unanimously. A similar ordinance, covering the downtown area, which contains commercial, industrial and residential buildings, is being prepared by village legal counsel.
