Montpelier Village Council split on what to do with legalization of recreational marijuana.

The Montpelier Village Council is split on what to do with the legalization of recreational marijuana in Ohio. It approved on first reading an ordinance that would limit where cannabis operators, cultivators and dispensaries in the village can operate and push them to open in the Montpelier Industrial Park. But then two council members vote against the first reading, one saying it goes too far while the other wants to take it further. The ordinance, which needs two more readings before it can become law, would prohibit cannabis operations in any area not zoned for industry. Although there are some areas in the village zoned this way, Councilman Chris Kannel said they are within 500 feet of a school, church, public library, public playground or public park, so a dispensary wouldn’t be able to open there. That leaves the industrial park as the only viable location.
