More on the man killed last week by deputies

We’re working to learn more about a man who was shot and killed on Thursday by a Williams County Sheriff’s Deputy who responded to a well-being check on U.S. 20 north of Montpelier and found the man armed in a chair outside his residence. Family members reportedly warned the Sheriff’s Office the man was “not right” and had a history of mental issues. The Bryan Times is reporting today that officers from 14 area agencies responded when dispatchers sent out a Code 99, asking for every available officer to respond. The man’s gun appeared to officers to be a semi-automatic rifle, like an AR-15. Sheriff Steve Towns said the man was distraught. No one seems to know what set the man off. The shooting is being investigated by multiple agencies. So far his name has not been released.
