Mosquitos carrying the West Nile virus have been found once again in Steuben County. Four pools of mosquito groups collected in Steuben County by the State Department of Health have tested positive for the West Nile virus; however, to date, there have been no human cases of West Nile virus in the county. Health officials say that despite the cooler temperatures we have been experiencing at dusk and dawn, mosquitoes will remain active above 60 degrees. This makes the risk of biting possible. The risk of human disease will persist until the first hard freeze. Individuals who think they may have West Nile virus sould see their health care provider.
