MURDER TRIAL CONTINUES IN DEFIANCE

A dozen witnesses testified for the prosecution Tuesday in the aggravated murder trial of an Oakwood woman in Defiance County Court.

The trial of 46 year old Judith Hawkey began Tuesday. Hawkey stands accused of aggravated murder; four counts of endangering children; and insurance fraud.

Prosecutors charge that she caused her then 10-year-old stepson who is now 20, to shoot and kill her husband, who was the boy’s father, back in November of 2003 at their home in Mark Center.

Hawkey also is accused of allegedly abusing the boy.

The defense argues that Corey Breininger shot his father accidentally, which was the county sheriff’s office ruling in 2003 as they were discussing gun safety.

The prosecution alleges the boy shot his father on his mother’s orders while he was sleeping.

Testimony continues today.
